24th Annual Golf Classic Raises $120K for Meals on Wheels Atlanta

Some 104 golfers hit the links on Sept. 17, 2024, for the 24th Annual Meals On Wheels Atlanta Golf Classic at Capital City Club Crabapple. The most successful tournament in the nonprofit organization’s history, the tournament featured a full day of golf, camaraderie and charitable giving, all in support of Atlanta's homebound seniors.

The tournament raised over $120,000 in net proceeds—equivalent to 19,000 meals—directly supporting the mission of Meals On Wheels Atlanta. The event featured an all-inclusive experience, complete with an open bar, awards reception, premium player gifts, prizes and a hole-in-one Cadillac Escalade challenge.

“We are overwhelmed by the tremendous support and generosity shown at this year's Golf Classic,” said Charlene Crusoe-Ingram, CEO of Meals On Wheels Atlanta. “With these funds, we can provide 19,000 nutritious meals, ensuring our senior neighbors not only receive daily nourishment but also a message of care and connection from the community.”

The day was highlighted by a moving speech from event honoree Blake Selig, owner of Dakota Contractors, LLC, who praised the organization’s impact on the community. “It’s clear that our collective efforts go beyond just a day of golf,” said Selig. “Each swing, every putt has been a strike against the isolation and challenges faced by our homebound senior neighbors. It’s inspiring to see how our community has rallied to support Meals On Wheels Atlanta, transforming a simple game into lifesaving meals and hope for those who need it most.”

Meals On Wheels Atlanta extends its gratitude to all the sponsors who made this incredible event possible and invites participation in the following upcoming events to help the nonprofit further its mission:

ABOUT MEALS ON WHEELS ATLANTA

Meals On Wheels Atlanta (MOWA) was founded in 1965 to support seniors struggling with hunger and social isolation. For over 60 years, MOWA has grown from a small soup kitchen to an organization that has delivered over six million lifesaving meals throughout the Atlanta area.

MOWA has expanded its program offerings to respond to other critical needs in the community. The nonprofit now offers multiple services to support Atlanta seniors, including personalized and therapeutic home-delivered and family-style meals, home repair services, an emergency food pantry and a pet pantry allowing seniors to remain at home with their pets, which are sometimes the only family they have.

Since MOWA raises 97% of its funding from private donations each year, the nonprofit has expanded fundraising efforts to include social enterprises 1705WEST, Atlanta’s Premier Event Space with a Purpose; and Purposeful Gourmet Foods, The Snack that Gives Back! All proceeds from both efforts benefit MOWA’s meals program.
