Sephardic Heritage Festival Presented by Congregation Or VeShalom March 22-24

From March 22-24, 2024, Congregation Or VeShalom welcomes the community to a weekend long Purim & Sephardic Heritage Festival. With special guests SAVOR co-founders Chef Susan Barocas and Sarah Aroeste weaving food and music throughout the weekend, guests will enjoy all aspects of Sephardic Jewish life.

Congregation Or VeShalom’s Executive Director Adam Kofinas says, “We are so looking forward to welcoming SAVOR’s Sarah Aroeste and Susan Barocas, as well as our wonderful bakers, judges and guests who will share their music, food, and culture with upwards of 400 people throughout the 3-day Festival.”

Weekend highlights include:

  • Musical Kabbalat Shabbat experience followed by a richly flavored traditional Turkish-Jewish Shabbat Dinner, featuring recipes by Chef Susan Barocas and
    Ladino songs with Sarah Aroeste.

  • Sephardic-Mezze Kiddush Lunch, also featuring recipes by Chef Susan.

  • Evening Cooking Class by Susan, followed by reading of the Purim Megillah.

  • Bureka Bake Off guests are invited to watch the bakers compete against each other, attempting to impress the judges and guests, who will both sample the entries and vote on winners in various categories! The Bureka Bake Off will feature: Up to 12 teams or individual bakers; Bakeoff Emcee Keith Pepper, Rough Draft Atlanta; and Special Guest Bake-off Judges: chef & restauranteur Shai Lavi, chef & restauranteur Todd Ginsberg, Sarah Aroeste, Susan Barocas, and OVS’s Rabbi Hearshen.
