Johnny's Hideaway Has Good Times Down to a Science
Everyone loves that feeling of being seen, especially at a crowded club. At Johnny’s Hideaway, the key to fast, efficient service is a prepared, professional team with eyes in the back of their heads. Consistency is king, and owner Chris D’Auria looks to his loyal crew to maintain the peak service that guests deserve and expect whether during lunch or with a packed dance floor on the weekend.
Johnny's is well known in metro Atlanta for many things. The Sinatra Room and Elvis Corner, a great DJ and dance floor, and of course tater tots, but fast, efficient, prepared-for-everything service has made Johnny's steady since 1979.
"It's key that someone who comes in at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday has the same great service as someone on a busy Friday night, so we're prepared and ready at all times,” says D’Auria. “We have an amazing and tenured staff. One barback has been with us for 26 years. If you want to know anything about efficient, fast bar service, guests should look no further than Mike Sorbet, but everyone is top-notch. They really know what they're doing, and it shows."
With a capacity for 275 guests and frequent lines at the door, it takes four bartenders, one service bartender, three barbacks, six servers and up to six doormen inside and out to keep the flow on packed weekends. Everyone has a specific job, and it is a choreographed performance each night. From the seasoned cocktail service of Janette Sorbet as she plans out the reserved tables to the nimble hands of professional bartenders with their heads on a swivel, Johnny's has good times down to a science.
On any given weekend, the bar can go through 60 bottles of Tito's vodka, two cases of Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey and five cases of Casamigos tequila. At the ready are giant, well-maintained ice machines. "Never take an ice machine for granted," adds D'Auria. “We go through over 2,000 pounds on a busy night. Great cocktails need good, clean ice, and we've always got it. A literal ton of it!"
Whether out with friends and showing off dance moves or popping in for a midweek lunch with seasoned regulars at the bar, excellent, fast service is a cornerstone of this classic Atlanta establishment.
