One Handed Bartender's "Cocktails in a Jar" Now Available at Slabtown Public House
As thirsty Atlanta BeltLine fans pile into Slabtown Public House, Kevin Gillespie’s latest concept, they’ve begun sampling Red Beard Restaurants mixologist Jason Drumwright’s delicious new side hustle—One Handed Bartender (OHB) handcrafted libations. What originally began as a way for Drumwright and his friends to answer the question “Why can’t we have great cocktails anywhere?” has turned into a full-fledged beverage business model.
Even better, every time a diner orders a tasty OHB beverage at Slabtown, 25% of the profits go to Defend Southern Food, Gillespie and Red Beard Restaurants partner Marco Shaw’s new nonprofit that feeds families within the Atlanta Public School’s Maynard Jackson school cluster in the city’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. Day drinking OHB fans at Slabtown also are snapping up One Handed Bartender branded barware with the proceeds going to the charity.
Infused into each sip of a OHB cocktail is Drumwright’s 22 years of mixology experience, handcrafting cocktails nightly in Austin, New York City, Los Angeles and for the last six years in Atlanta working for Red Beard Restaurants at Communion, Revival, Cold Beer, Gunshow and now Slabtown.
“Sure, I’ve been bartending for over 20 years,” explains Drumwright, “but I wanted to create a line of delicious, handcrafted cocktails made with the finest and freshest ingredients for my non-mixologist friends who are out tailgating or celebrating a housewarming. While everyone enjoys a handcrafted cocktail, figuring out all of the ingredients and dealing with all that measuring and prep work can feel overwhelming. We created OHB to take away that stress and guesswork. All you have to do is unscrew the cap, accent your cocktail glass with your favorite garnish and you’re all set.”
The company’s name was inspired by the intentional ease of the beverage line—being able to open and serve with a single hand. In addition to landing on the shelves of the iconic Atlanta liquor stores Green’s, Drumwright’s longtime boss Kevin Gillespie is proudly offering the line of OHB cocktails at Slabtown and Revival in Decatur.
Among the handcrafted products in the OHB line of cocktails:
The World’s Best Gimlet: Created with Skeptic Distillery gin and the perfect balance of fresh lime and sugar, this is the perfect summer sipper with bright citrus, a touch of sweetness and a hint of herbs.
The 1887 Manhattan: Made with Lazy Guy Distillery’s Embers GA bourbon with notes of spice, dark fruit and a hint of orange, this rich, herbal take on a classic will make sippers feel like they are inside a dimly lit New York club.
The World’s Best Daiquiri: Starring Thrasher’s Green Spiced rum with hints of sweet grassy sugarcane, the bright tartness of lime and soothing brown sugar, this is the quintessential take on a Tiki cocktail.
As he continues to develop the OHB line of “cocktails in a jar” (coming soon: The Castaway!), Drumwright’s business partners and fellow taste-testers double as his brother Josh and sister-in-law Jen. Says Drumwright, “They’re my best friends, and they have great taste in cocktails. Working together, OHB has literally become our little family business.”
