Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Around Atlanta
Cinco de Mayo is more than just a day to eat tacos and drink margaritas. The holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. After the Mexican Civil War in 1915, many Mexican people settled in the United States bringing along their customs, traditions and holidays. This year, be sure to take some time to learn about the rich history of this holiday while enjoying the festivities and specials at Atlanta-area restaurants on Wednesday, May 5.
Lots of fun and the flavors of Mexico’s interior states lure guests to Chido & Padre’s for a Cinco de Mayo celebration. The Buckhead eatery will be open from 4 p.m. until late night with a DJ on the patio, food and beverage offerings, and buy-a-shot, take-a-shot at the piñata chance for prizes. Among the beverage offerings are El Jimador house margaritas ($8), Lambrusco sangria punchbowl (40 oz./$16) and Dos Equis draft by the cup ($6) and pitcher ($20). Chido & Padre’s will serve a limited menu with items such as fundido, birria tacos, duck sope, chicken tacos and oysters.
No plans for Cinco de Mayo this year? That’s no prob-llama at Lazy Llama Cantina. On May 5, enjoy tacos and other Mexican specialties along with an impressive selection of tequilas.
At HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern’s Halcyon Location, celebrate with a Cinco de Mayo party starting at 5 p.m. Enjoy tacos and margaritas on the patio while listening to a live Latin band. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. Purchase tickets online. At HOBNOB’s Brookhaven, Atlantic Station and Perimeter locations, enjoy three taco specials for $4.50 alongside the eatery’s classic Southern-style tavern fare.
To add a bit of the Cinco de Mayo celebration to your day, be sure to stop by Aria for one of the restaurant’s expertly crafted margaritas. Enjoy it with a full meal from the a la carte menu that changes daily or in a more relaxed setting at the bar or lounge.
Johnny’s Hideaway is offering $5 house Hideaway margaritas, complimentary chips and salsa and a $10 taco plate. And with Cinco de Mayo falling on Wednesday, Johnny’s will be honoring its Ladies Night feature: ladies receive a free drink from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and all Ketel One cocktails are $8 until close.
Tin Lizzy’s Cantina is celebrating Ocho Days of Cinco with drink features from May 1-8. Enjoy $5 Herradura margaritas, $3 Tecate Light cans and $3 Dos Equis Ambar cans. For those preferring to bring the party home, a Cinco Party Pack can be ordered for pick-up all week and the morning of May 5 until 2 p.m. Cinco Party Packs include build-your-own tacos with chicken or steak, tortillas, romaine, tomatoes, jack cheese, choice of chipotle crema or sour cream, rice and beans, seasoned tortilla chips, salsa roja, queso and a gallon of margarita mix.
