Guaranteeing good times since 1979, Johnny’s Hideaway is well known as Atlanta’s original nightspot for big kids. The popular restaurant and dance club is a go-to spot for the over-40 crowd and a late-night destination for 20- and 30-somethings about town, but many longtime Atlantans and loyal bar-hoppers have no clue what goes on behind the scenes. Just in time for back-to-school, Johnny’s shares some little-known facts that make this legendary hotspot tick.

• The most popular late-night menu item at Johnny’s is tater tots. Despite offering a full menu for both lunch and dinner, the kitchen turns out more tots than any other food during the wee hours.

• Although many couples have met at Johnny’s and then married, just as many of the club’s patrons have parted ways. The running joke among staff members is, “Who gets the Hideaway in the divorce?”

• Approximately 5 driver’s licenses, 30 credit cards and 10 cell phones are lost each week at Johnny’s.

• The most popular drink served at Johnny's is vodka, usually mixed with Red Bull or soda.

• None of Johnny’s bartenders resemble Tom Cruise’s character in the movie “Cocktail” because, according to D’Auria, “if any of them made as few drinks per minute as he did, they’d be fired.”

• No drinks are allowed on the dance floor at Johnny’s Hideaway. Johnny’s was originally a shag, swing and ballroom dance club, and none of these dances could be done with a drink in hand.

• The club’s longest-serving employee is Mike Sorbet, who has been working at Johnny’s for 24 years. D’Auria credits his longtime staff members for Johnny’s continued success.

• The largest tip ever received at Johnny’s was $5,000. Johnny’s bartenders and servers know how to keep guests happy and dancing the night away.

• The most requested songs at Johnny’s Hideaway are “Dancing Queen” by ABBA and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston.
