Postino WineCafé Raises a Glass on Two Under-the-Radar Reds for National Red Wine Day Aug. 28
On Monday, Aug. 28, Postino WineCafé—with locations in Buckhead and West Midtown—invites guests to indulge in the richness of National Red Wine Day when wine enthusiasts and novices alike can revel in a curated selection of exceptional red wines. To mark this special occasion, Postino’s recommends two under-the-radar red wines that have stolen the hearts of its discerning sommeliers.
Costa, a red blend from Contra Costa County in California (2021), is a Postino exclusive produced by Matt Cline of Three Wine Company. Available by the glass and predominantly Carignan, which is very much an "under the radar" red varietal, this is a medium-bodied varietal most commonly found in Southern France but also grows in Northern Spain, Sardinia and in small quantities in California. Carignan often displays flavors of red fruits like raspberry and cranberry along with baking spices.
Available by the bottle, Tenuta Delle Terre Nere, Nerello Mascalese (2020) is produced in the Mount Etna region in Sicily. Mount Etna is an active volcano, and the vines grow in dark volcanic soils that soak up heat during the day and radiate back at the vines at night, creating excellent growing conditions for grapes. Nerrello Mascalese is a natural cross of Sangiovese and Mantonico Bianco and commonly showcases high levels of tannin and bright acidity, making it very food friendly. The wine boasts typical flavors and aromas of cherry, orange zest, dried herbs and minerals.
These hidden gems promise an unforgettable tasting experience, showcasing unique flavors and aromas that will delight the palate. Postino’s National Red Wine Day celebration is the perfect opportunity to savor the allure of these extraordinary reds.
